PALMOILMAGAZINE, TANGERANG – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), has urged stakeholders to focus on developing the downstream sectors of the plantation industry as a means to strengthen the nation’s future economic standing. He believes that these downstream sectors represent the new frontier for increasing people’s income.
“Downstream industries are the driving force and the new pride of Indonesia that we must collectively nurture. For instance, biodiesel derived from palm oil plantations can significantly reduce our reliance on biodiesel imports,” SYL emphasized during the inauguration of Perkebunan Expo (Bunex 2023) held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE BSD) in Tangerang, Banten Province, on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
He also said that by having downstream sectors, the target of Indonesia to reinforce economic would be realized nationally. That is why it needs to get total consolidation from many parties to improve the areas in every region.

“The future concept should focus to improve available areas, such as, our palm oil plantations. For me, palm oil is like a – 100 carat gold, not 24 carats anymore. Why? Because palm oil is the source of life for 280 million citizens of Indonesia,” he said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com.
SYL also mentioned, agriculture is the most strategic sector because in the past four years, it positively develops when others got contraction because of crisis globally.
“I really hope that by Bunex 2023, there would be the same understanding from my friends, particularly in private sectors to accelerate downstream (sectors). In two or three days to go, I would accompany president to discuss and speak about food issues. That is why we have to be more accelerative,” he said. (T2)
