Universities in Yogyakarta Hold Discussions on Integrating Palm Oil into Curriculum

PALMOILMAGAZINE, YOGAKARTA – The Indonesian Private Agricultural Universities Association (Asosiasi Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Ilmu Pertanian Indonesia/APTS-IPI), in collaboration with the Faculty of Agroindustry at Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY), organized a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) on Palm Oil Curriculum and a Technical Guidance (Bimtek) for the Preparation of Reputable Scientific Articles on 1st February 2024.

The event took place in the Seminar Room at UMBY Campus 1 on Jalan Wates Km. 10, Yogyakarta, aiming to discuss strategic approaches to enhance the quality of education and research in agriculture, particularly focusing on the palm oil industry.

The FGD sessions covered various topics including the development of palm oil curriculum, technical guidelines for article preparation, strategies for producing reputable scientific articles, as well as methods to expedite professional advancement. Additionally, the annual meeting of APTS-IPI was also convened during the event.

Director of UMBY, DR. Agus Slamet in his speech hoped that APTS-IPI would make agriculture study program go forward in private universities. “It is significant to make agriculture study program more interesting for young generations by hoping that the knowledge that the student get would be effectively implemented when they are working, particularly in the context of palm oil sector which is very promising,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of Dikti Wiayah V, Tuesday (6/2/2024).

One main focus in the technical guidelines would be about scientific article arrangement. DR. Paristiyanti Nurwardani, the Chairman of APTS-IPI emphasized that it needed to study palm oil specialization in one semester in agriculture study program. This would relate with palm oil industrial prospects that would become bio aviation turbine fuel in the future and would create good opportunity.

Director of Akademik Komunitas Perkebunan Yogyakarta (AKPY-STIPER), DR. Gunawan also emphasized it is important to prepare competent human resource in palm oil plantation cultivation before formulating palm oil curriculum. He also told agriculture (palm oil sectors) would play big chance in research.

Prof. Eko Priyo Purnomo from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and also Prof. Sunardi from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan delivered insight about how to formulate good research article and acceleration strategies of academic functional position. They emphasized that scientific article writings should be supported by deep research, maximal contribution, originality, and clarity of writings.

By the activity, it is hoped that APTS-IPI and UMBY would lay hands to make education and research in agriculture sectors go forward particularly in palm oil industries. The next agenda, such as, congress of APTS-IPI in October 2024, would show the commitment to keep reinforcing collaboration and get innovation in these sectors. (T2)
