Indonesia Recovers IDR10.2 Trillion and Reclaims 5.8 Million Hectares in Forest Crackdown

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — Attorney General’s Office of Indonesia announced that the government has successfully recovered IDR10.2 trillion through enforcement actions carried out by the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH), as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal control of forest land linked to palm oil plantations and mining operations.

Attorney General ST Burhanuddin said the funds represent the government’s effort to strengthen transparency and accountability in handling violations involving forest area utilization.

According to Burhanuddin, the IDR10.2 trillion consists of IDR3.4 trillion collected from administrative forestry fines imposed by Satgas PKH and another IDR6.8 trillion generated from the recovery and handover of forest lands previously controlled without proper authorization.

He explained that from February 2025 to May 2026, Satgas PKH successfully reclaimed around 5.8 million hectares of forest areas previously used for palm oil plantation and mining activities.

In addition, the government also retook control of another 12,371.58 hectares of forest land from parties deemed to have violated legal provisions governing forest utilization.

Burhanuddin stated that the reclaimed land will subsequently be transferred to relevant ministries and state institutions through coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Government Investment Agency before management responsibilities are handed over to PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara.

During the seventh phase of land handover, PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara received an additional 2.3 million hectares of forest land.

The newly transferred area includes the revocation of concession permits covering 733,180 hectares involving 29 legal entities, as well as the cancellation of forest utilization business permits covering 1,045,219 hectares involving 22 legal entities.

“Overall, up to the seventh phase, PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara has received approximately 4.1 million hectares of reclaimed forest land,” Burhanuddin said.

He stressed that the forest area enforcement initiative is not merely ceremonial, but forms part of the government’s broader effort to safeguard national sovereignty over natural resources and prevent state revenue leakage.

According to him, the achievements of Satgas PKH demonstrate the state’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring natural resource management is conducted in an orderly, fair, and nationally beneficial manner.

“There must no longer be any leakage of state wealth that harms national interests and public welfare. There must also be no further control of natural resources by parties that ignore the principles of justice and public benefit,” Burhanuddin emphasized.

He also highlighted illegal exploitation practices that have resulted in capital outflows abroad, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring Indonesia’s natural resources are utilized primarily for the prosperity of the Indonesian people.

Burhanuddin expressed appreciation to all members of Satgas PKH for their dedication and efforts in protecting forest sovereignty and recovering state assets from illegal control.

“This enforcement effort is concrete proof of the state’s presence in upholding the law and ensuring that natural resource management operates in accordance with regulations and national interests,” he concluded. (P2)
