The Indonesian integrated palm oil company was recognized for advancing sustainable production, climate action, renewable energy initiatives, supply chain traceability, and smallholder empowerment.

PALMOILMAGAZINE, MEDAN — Musim Mas, one of Indonesia’s leading integrated palm oil companies, has received the Mahayuga Award 2026 from Garuda TV in the Green Industry Pioneer category, recognizing its efforts to combine industrial growth with long-term environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

The award was presented to Musim Mas President Director Gunawan Siregar by Environment Minister and Head of the Environmental Control Agency of the Republic of Indonesia Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, accompanied by University of Indonesia Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, during the Mahayuga Awards ceremony organized by Garuda TV on August 9, 2026.

For Musim Mas, the recognition represents both an appreciation of its ongoing sustainability efforts and a reminder that building a responsible industry requires continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.

“We are grateful to receive this award. For us, this recognition is not the end of a journey, but an encouragement to continue learning, innovating, and improving our sustainability efforts,” Gunawan said in a statement received by PalmOilMagazine on Thursday (August 20, 2026).

“We believe that industrial growth must go hand in hand with responsibility toward the environment and society.”

Advancing a More Responsible Palm Oil Industry

Musim Mas said sustainability remains an integral part of its long-term business strategy and value creation. The company continues to develop initiatives covering more sustainable production, emissions reduction, environmental protection, and the empowerment of independent smallholders and local communities.

The company was the first palm oil producer in Indonesia to obtain both Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification. Musim Mas is also among the palm oil companies whose emissions-reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

As part of its transition toward lower-emission operations, Musim Mas has developed and operates a network of methane capture and biogas facilities across its operational areas. These projects are designed to improve resource efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas emissions generated from palm oil operations.

At the supply chain level, the company continues to strengthen its independent smallholder empowerment programs through training, productivity improvement, sustainable agricultural practices, and enhanced supply chain traceability.

The initiatives are intended to help smallholders improve yields and strengthen the resilience of their businesses while promoting more responsible and sustainable plantation practices.

Musim Mas’ commitment to transparency and climate management has also received international recognition, with the company achieving a place on the CDP A List for three consecutive years.

Recognition That Encourages Continuous Improvement

The Mahayuga Awards, organized by Garuda TV, recognize individuals, institutions, organizations, and public figures considered to have made meaningful contributions through innovation, dedication, and service to Indonesia’s national development.

This year’s awards featured eight categories: Social Movement Champion; Governance, Social and Environmental Stewardship; Golden Human Resources Champion; Energy Transition Driver; Green Industry Pioneer; Resilience and Sovereignty Guardian; Nature Guardian; and Lifetime Achievement.

The assessment process involved representatives from various backgrounds, including editors-in-chief, communications experts, and rectors of state universities.

According to Ahmad Gamal, Vice Rector of the University of Indonesia and one of the panelists, the awards represent Garuda TV’s moral support for individuals and institutions driving positive change in social and environmental fields. He said the nominees demonstrated long-standing dedication to contributing to Indonesia’s progress.

For Musim Mas, the Mahayuga Award 2026 provides additional motivation to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and continue exploring new ways to increase the positive impact of its operations.
