PALMOILMAGAZINE, BADUNG – Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, stated that several African nations expressed strong interest in expanding their capacity in the palm oil industry during meetings with President Joko Widodo. She made this remark at a press conference for the High-Level Forum Multi-Stakeholders Partnership (HLF MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Badung, Bali, on Monday (2/9).
“When meeting with the President, many countries expressed a desire to enhance their capacity in the palm oil sector,” Retno said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from Antara on Tuesday (3/9/2024).
She also noted that some African nations are considering joining the Committee of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), a palm oil producers’ association.

In addition to seeking cooperation in the palm oil sector, Retno mentioned that some African countries are also interested in collaboration in the healthcare sector. Economic cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry was one of the key topics discussed between President Joko Widodo and Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Kembo Dugish Campbell Muleya Mohadi.
She also mentioned Indonesia got agreement of cooperation in heath technology transfer with Ghana, and vaccine technology transfer with Kenya. The agreements should reinforce the health sector for the two African countries.
“Africa would be big enough for us not to notice. Indonesia would be ready to cooperate with the African countries particularly in food, energy, health, and mineral sectors,” Retno emphasized the commitment of Indonesia to expand the cooperation in African continent.
HLF MSP 2024 and the 2nd IAF in Bali this year proposed the theme “Strengthening Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships: Towards a Transformative Change” and “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063”. It presented many global – scale stakeholders, including the main session at Joint Leaders Session Indonesia-Afrika (IAF), HLF MSP 2024 and High-Level Plenary Session in the second day. (P2)
