PALMOILMAGAZINE, MUARO JAMBI – The Regency of Muaro Jambi, represented by Assistant II Ahmad Ridwan, mediated a land dispute between PT Bukit Bintang Sawit (BBS) and the villagers of Sogo in Kumpeh Subdistrict on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

The mediation took place at the Muaro Jambi Regional Secretariat and was attended by the head of Sogo Village, leaders of the indigenous community, the chairman of the Village Consultative Body (BPD), the Youth Council of Sogo, along with local police and attorneys.

During the meeting, Sogo villagers raised several demands, including compensation for 332 families affected by the conflict and the return of approximately 797 hectares of land that they claim belongs to the village.

Ahmad Ridwan, speaking on behalf of the Regency of Muaro Jambi, stressed that the local government would continue to monitor and facilitate the mediation process. “We are committed to ensuring that the mediation results in a fair solution for both parties,” he said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The area conflicts would be the serious issue for the regency and legal officers because the impacts would be for the welfare of the villagers. Police chief of Muaro Jambi and head of Politic and National Welfare Agency did attend to make sure that the mediation would safely and transparently run.

It was the follow up from the regency to muffle the tension between the company and the villagers to get the agreement that would deliver advantages for the two. (P2)
