Held under the theme “Palm Oil in a Fragmented World, Securing Food, Energy, and Economic Resilience,” IPOC 2026 will examine the position of Indonesia’s palm oil industry amid shifts in the global economic and trade landscape.

Susanto Bun, chairman of IPOC 2026, said global fragmentation has become a challenge that requires a coordinated response from stakeholders across the palm oil industry. Geopolitical developments and changes in international trade policies can affect market access, trade flows and the future development of strategic commodities.

“IPOC 2026 is an important moment to strengthen palm oil’s strategic position in responding to global fragmentation, while reaffirming its contribution to food security, energy and economic growth,” Susanto said at a press conference attended by PalmOilMagazine on Friday (Oct. 9) at the GAPKI headquarters in Jakarta.

Strengthening Palm Oil’s Role Amid Global Shifts

As one of the world’s leading palm oil producers, Indonesia has a strategic interest in ensuring that its palm oil industry remains competitive and adaptable as international markets evolve.

Palm oil is not only a major export commodity but also plays a role in meeting global vegetable oil demand, supporting the development of bio-based energy and driving economic activity across producing regions.

At the same time, the industry faces growing requirements related to sustainability, environmental standards, supply-chain traceability and market-access conditions in international markets.

These pressures mean that competitiveness can no longer depend solely on production volumes. The industry must also improve efficiency, strengthen downstream processing, expand market access and ensure compliance with evolving sustainability requirements.

IPOC 2026 will provide a platform to examine these developments and help industry stakeholders assess emerging risks while identifying opportunities amid changes in the global economy.

Four Key Areas on the IPOC 2026 Agenda

IPOC 2026 is designed to bring together discussions on the relationship between the palm oil industry and major shifts in the global economy. The conference agenda covers four broad areas.

First, economic resilience. Discussions will focus on the industry’s ability to navigate global uncertainty, changing trade policies and shifts in the international economy.

A Strategic Forum for Indonesia’s Palm Oil Industry

IPOC 2026 will also provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to exchange views on policy direction, market developments and strategies for navigating international competition.

The participation of government representatives, businesses and experts is expected to bring policy perspectives closer to the practical needs of the industry. Such dialogue will be increasingly important as Indonesia seeks to develop its palm oil sector while balancing domestic economic interests with evolving global market requirements.

With food and energy security becoming increasingly important on the global agenda, Indonesia’s palm oil industry has an opportunity to strengthen its strategic position. Capturing that opportunity, however, will require higher productivity, deeper downstream development, regulatory certainty and stronger sustainability practices.

Against this backdrop, IPOC 2026 is expected to serve as an important forum for examining how Indonesia’s palm oil industry can navigate a changing global order while reinforcing its role in food security, energy and economic resilience. (P3)
