PALMOILMAGAZINE, KENFROM – The Horticulture and Plantation Agency of Southeast Sulawesi distributed 65,000 palm oil seeds to smallholders across the province as part of the government’s initiative to improve the quality and yield of agriculture in Bumi Anoa.
“In addition to palm oil seeds, we also distributed other crops, including 28,000 nutmeg seeds, 37,000 areca nut seeds, 30,000 durian seeds, 40,000 mango seeds, and around 20,000 cayenne pepper seeds,” said Akbar Effendi, Head of the Plantation Department at the Southeast Sulawesi Horticulture and Plantation Agency, in Kendari on Thursday.
These seeds were provided free of charge as part of the government’s commitment to supporting the plantation and horticulture sectors. The distribution aims to enhance the welfare of farmers and smallholders in the province and will be completed before the 2024 dry season.

“By the program, we do hope the commodity production result and quality would get escalated,” Akbar said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Antara, Friday (9/8/2024).
The horticulture seeds distributed were durian, mango and cayenne pepper that reached 20 thousand seeds.
He hoped the commodities would be taken for advantages by the smallholders to deliver fruits for themselves.
To get the free seeds, the farmers and smallholders’ group should have decision from the village secretariat or head of village, should have registered areas in Sistem Informasi Manajemen Penyuluhan Pertanian (Simultan) application. “The groups in the regencies/cities should propose in the first place to head of horticulture and plantation agency and be registered in counselor system and have the areas,” Akbar said.
In the counselor system, the smallholders and farmers’ data should be completed with their areas so that the government would monitor each progress and would deliver technical helps needed. “Besides, they would get development from the counselors regularly and periodically,” he said. (P2)
