PALMOILMAGAZINE, DUBAI – In pursuit of Indonesia’s energy transition towards achieving net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and PT Pertamina (Persero) recognize the crucial need for synergy between the two companies. As key players in the energy sector, both entities hold strategic roles in realizing the objectives of a sustainable energy transition.
Nani Hendiarti, Deputy in Environment and Forestry Management Coordination at the Ministry of Maritime and Investment, emphasized the necessity for Indonesia to address two distinct imperatives: the NZE target by 2060 and the concurrent fulfillment of escalating requirements for energy security, sustainability, and affordability.
“We have to realize NZE in 2060 when energy security, sustainability and affordability needs get increasing,” she said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Monday (4/12/2023).

In the documents of Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC), Indonesia got emission reduction target up to 31,89 percent with its resources nationally and 43,2 percent with other countries’ helps. Energy sector targets to get emission reduction up to 358 MtCO2e independently and 446 MtCO2e with other helps from many countries.
It is important to get synergy among many sectors particularly in environment and energy because it would be the key to realize the climate action target.

General Directorate of Climate Change Control Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Laksmi Dhewanti suggested that the companies’ strategies in energy sector should get integration with area sector to holistically formulate climate action(s).
In a session of Global Director World Bank Energy and Extractive Global Practice, Demetrios Papathanasiou emphasized that it is important to get fund support to get the same climate targets. The collaboration and financial support would be the crucial elements to confirm the success of energy transition. (T2)
