Italian Government Offers Technical Solutions for Indonesian CPO and Coffee Exports Amidst EUDR

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, Benedetto Latteri, has announced that the Italian Government, along with private sectors in the country, is offering technical solutions to address the impact of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on Indonesia’s key export products, such as crude palm oil and coffee. One proposed innovation is the implementation of a certification scheme to ensure compliance with EUDR regulations.

To further explore this offer, Latteri has invited representatives from the Ministry of Trade to Italy. The meeting will involve the Minister of External Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, as well as the Port Authorities of Genova and Trieste. The discussions will primarily focus on technical aspects aimed at facilitating the export of Indonesian products to Europe.

During the same opportunity, the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Zulkifli Hasan, has sought support from Italy to expedite the negotiation process for the Indonesian European Union – Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU–CEPA). Minister Hasan also emphasized that Indonesia and Italy share a common interest in resolving the negotiations as swiftly as possible.

“Indonesia has the same ambition to solve IEU CEPA in 2024 as President Joko Widodo and President Ursula von der Leyen, instructed. Indonesia did welcome the positive results in the 18th round to solve CEPA negotiation,” Zulfkifly said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Friday (24/5/2024).

In the crucial phase, both parties should get pragmatic approach and show flexibility in certain issues to realize the profitable cooperation and agreement for both sides.

These reflected the two countries are committed to reinforce economic relation and confirm the mainstay product exports from Indonesia in the global trade. By the support and technical solution from Italy, it is hoped CPO and coffee from Indonesia would qualify international – scale standards and be competitive in European Union. (T2)
