PALMOILMAGAZINE, SIMALUNGUN – Nine delegations from various countries, including general consulates and honorary consuls, toured the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatera Province, on Wednesday (26/6/2024).

The purpose of the visit was to gather detailed information about potential investment opportunities in Sei Mangkei SEZ and the Medan Industrial Zone.

Sei Mangkei SEZ in North Sumatera is renowned for its large-scale palm oil plantations and a state-of-the-art downstream rubber development center that meets international standards.

Alfi Syahriza, Head of Development Planning and Research at the North Sumatra Provincial Government, highlighted that the SEZ offers significant opportunities for investors to participate in downstream industries.

“Many industries in North Sumatera, particularly in Sei Mangkei SEZ develop fast,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of North Sumatera Province, Thursday (27/6/2024).

One main question that the delegations asked about was the easiness and incentives that North Sumatera Province would offer to the investors. Head of Investment and Once Stop Service, North Sumatera, Faisal Arif Nasution said that the province published Regional Regulation Number 3 / 2023 that would offer investment incentives and easiness to get (many) investors.

Director of PT Kawasan Industri Nusantara (KINRA), VT Moses Situmorang said that Sei Mangkei SEZ laid on about 1.993,8 hectares. It is now managed together with PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) and PT KINRA with the business focuses on palm oil and rubber. Until now, some buildings are being constructed for seven companies in Sei Mangkei SEZ. It is planned, there would be three (companies) to operate. Investment estimation by 2023 could be the top, namely in crude palm oil oleochemical and refinery.

The delegation also visited ice cream industry to see the production and packaging process. This showed their commitment to explore potential investment in North Sumatera Province. (P2)
