Palm Oil Exports increased when Others Decreased

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – In its June 2023 report on national exports, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) highlighted a notable trend. While several sectors experienced a decline in performance, palm oil exports witnessed a significant increase of 55.51 percent month on month (m o m).

Atqo Mardiyanto, Secretary of CBS, acknowledged that despite facing lower prices in many countries globally, palm oil managed to achieve higher export volumes. This thriving performance places palm oil within the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector.

“According to non-oil and gas export value from Indonesia in June 2023, it reached 19,34 billion American dollar. Agriculture sector contribute 0,36 billion American dollar,” Atqo said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Monday, 17 July 2023.

He also mentioned the export goals were dominated by three big countries, they were, China, the United States of America, and India. Non-oil and gas exports to China reached US$ 4,58 billion. “Some mainstay commodities from Indonesia were palm oil, coal, iron, and steel,” he said.

In cumulative, agricultural exports in January to June 2023 reached US$ 2,13 billion. Agriculture contributed 1,66 percent to the total exports from Indonesia in the period.

Head of Public Information and Relation Ministry of Agriculture, Kuntoro Boga Andri said that the government keeps encouraging to expand smallholders replanting program (SRP) to escalate palm oil production. That is why Kuntoro thought, palm oil contributes (in the exports) from the plantations nationally that laid about 16,83 million hectares.

“Anything that has something to do with productivity, we would maximally encourage, such as, to expand SRP,” he told.

Kuntoro thought, Ministry of Agriculture would do the best to escalate the roles of agriculture to develop the economy in Indonesia. According to the data in CBS, agriculture positively increased 1,77 percent in 2021 and 1,87 percent in 2022.
