PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Musim Mas Group reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by participating in the second Lingkungan, Iklim, Kehutanan, dan Energi Baru Terbarukan (LIKE) Festival, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF) at the Jakarta Convention Center from August 8-11, 2024.
The company presented under the theme “10 Tahun Kerja untuk Sustainabilitas,” highlighting their accumulated efforts and corrective measures in environmental protection, climate action, forestry, and renewable energy.
Vivi Anita, General Manager for Sustainability at Musim Mas, emphasized the company’s dedication to addressing sustainability issues. “Through our participation in the LIKE Festival, we aim to share our achievements and inspire younger generations on how to reduce and mitigate environmental impacts. This includes our commitment to conservation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which supports Indonesia’s nationally determined contributions (NDC),” Vivi stated in an official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com.

Just like the global – scale aspiration – Paris Agreement and NDC targets in Indonesia, Musim Mas is committed to realize net zero in 2050, would follow science – based target initiative (SBTi) guidelines to restrict the increasing temperature up to 1,5°C from pre – industrial era globally.
One concrete thing that Musim Mas Group conducted, was conservation and restoration in their plantations. The company obeyed the relevant national and international – scale terms and conditions, including did not get new planting in natural ecosystem in around their operation, such as, where high conservation values, peat, and the forest with high carbon stock existed.
Besides, Musim Mas did implement monitoring and cultivation in every conservation area, including ecosystem recovery where there was fire or logging. The group actively did patrol to prevent the hunting to protect natural conservation, particularly endangered animals in its concession areas.
Besides, the group implemented zero waste in its mills by re-cycling the sides products (of palm oil) to be safe materials to be re-used. Musim Mas would be the first groups that expanded methane capture in its whole mills to minimize green-house gas emission. The methane capture technology would process methane gas from its operation to be electricity and used for the operation and workers’ housing.
Until now Musim Mas has 17 mills that are completed by methane capture technology. Within 1 megawatt – capacity, one site methane capture would be able to supply 1.600 houses in the villages, helping the government and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara to expand electricity in the villages around the company’s operation.
Musim Mas in Festival LIKE 2024 would be the real commitment of the company to realize responsible operation on environment and support sustainability targets nationally and globally. (P2)
