PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Leading palm oil company Apical is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by prioritizing greenhouse gas emission reduction and agricultural transformation. Apical’s Sustainability Manager, Hendra Hosea, stated that the company has set ambitious sustainability goals for 2030, with several initiatives already making significant progress.
One of the main challenges in implementing sustainability programs is ensuring accurate and complex data can be effectively utilized. “We continuously conduct research and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including energy transition and production efficiency,” Hendra told Palmoilmagazine.com recently in Jakarta.
As part of its sustainability strategy, Apical is also committed to supporting farmers in adopting more environmentally friendly agricultural practices. A key initiative involves partnerships with farmer cooperatives to enhance sustainable production and strengthen trust in cooperative systems. “We understand that farmers need assurance in this transformation process. That’s why we are building a control system that enables them to manage their farms more effectively,” he explained.

In Aceh Singkil, Apical has established three farmer cooperatives focused on producing natural honey as an alternative source of sustainable income. This program aims to reduce deforestation by utilizing available resources without harming the environment. “We see great potential in natural honey as an alternative income source for farmers. We are continuously developing this program to ensure long-term benefits,” Hendra added.
Additionally, Apical is promoting the use of more environmentally friendly fuels, such as transitioning from diesel to B35 biodiesel blends. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the palm oil industry.
Despite some challenges, including educating and convincing stakeholders about the importance of this transformation, Apical remains optimistic about reaching its 2030 sustainability targets. “We are continuously making progress and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure a more sustainable future for the palm oil industry,” Hendra concluded.
