PALMOILMAGAZINE, SUMATRA – Widespread flooding and landslides that struck several regions across Sumatra—particularly in Aceh Province at the end of November 2025—have triggered a large-scale humanitarian crisis. According to the latest update from Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Friday, December 5, 2025, at 09:54 WIB, the hydrometeorological disaster has claimed 836 lives, left around 509 people missing, and injured more than 2,700 others.

Access Severely Disrupted
In Aceh Tamiang, flash floods caused major disruptions to transportation and logistics, with water levels reaching nearly one meter and damaging key road and bridge infrastructure. Communication networks and electricity were cut off for several days, deepening the isolation of affected communities and delaying early emergency assistance.
Several logistics trucks reportedly could not reach impacted areas until the main Aceh Tamiang–North Sumatra road was gradually reopened in early December following urgent repair efforts. The restored access allowed aid distribution to reach evacuation centers more efficiently, especially for vulnerable groups.

Emergency Response Efforts
In response to the crisis, Earthqualizer Foundation, in collaboration with Musim Mas Group, mobilized humanitarian assistance starting Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The support includes food packages, emergency medical supplies, sanitation kits, and large-capacity clean water tanks to meet the immediate needs of affected residents.
Aid distribution is carried out in coordination with field teams, local volunteers, and community networks to ensure that assistance reaches priority zones and vulnerable populations effectively.

“Our top priority is to ensure that basic needs and public health are maintained during the emergency phase. Rapid coordination and collective action are essential to help affected families survive until recovery efforts begin,” said Ivan V. Ageung, Chief Operating Officer of the Earthqualizer Foundation, in a statement received by Palmoilmagazine.com on Friday.

Yuandy, Corporate Affairs General Manager of Musim Mas, emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in expanding the reach and impact of disaster response efforts.
“In this difficult time, Musim Mas remains committed to supporting communities through direct assistance and sustained support. In this distribution, we are partnering with Earthqualizer to help flood survivors in Aceh. We believe collaboration is key to expanding the reach and effectiveness of humanitarian relief.”

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening social resilience and supporting recovery in areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters—events that are becoming increasingly frequent due to climate change and declining watershed capacity.

Further assistance is being prepared based on field assessments and recommendations from official authorities. (P3)
