Tourism Industries in Bali Committed to Use Sustainable Palm Oil Products

PALMOILMAGAZINE, BALI – In the conference of Perhimpunan Hotel dan Restoran Indonesia (PHRI) District of Badung, Thursday, (16/3/2023) in Bali Province, the tourism actors committed to reinforce Bali as one mainstay tourism destination in Indonesia which is in environmental and social perspective by using sustainable palm oil products in Indonesia.

PHRI Bali would be in cooperation with Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to encourage tourism actors in phase, namely hotels and restaurants to use palm oil derivative products which are responsibly and sustainably produced. Hotel and restaurant industries mostly use products in palm oil – base such as, palm cooking oil, margarine, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, spa products, perfume, and candle.

To realize Bali as the environmental tourism destination, PHRI and RSPO would do series of activity, such as, escalating capacity and awareness of PHRI members in Bali and other related stakeholders about sustainable palm oil, RSPO products, and promoting PHRI members that use sustainable products.

Vice Governor of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati said that until now Bali wants to be famous as environmental tourism destination for local and foreign tourists. This is the same with the local wisdom in Bali known as, Tri Hita Karana which highly honors the balance of man with other man and environment.

“Bali starts realizing it by decreasing one – use plastic application since 2019. Sustainable palm oil product application is our next agenda to be equal with Regional Action Plan of Sustainable Development Goal in Bali for the future. Our good cooperation with RSPO would be one strategic way to realize Bali as the sustainable tourism destination in the world in the sustainable palm oil product use,” Tjokorda who is also the Chairman of PHRI Bali said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Thursday (16/3/2023).

RSPO Deputy Director Market Transformation, Indonesia, Mahatma Windrawan Inantha said the institution did welcome the commitment of PHRI Bali to reinforce Bali as the mainstay tourism destination in eco-tourism base, not only in Indonesia but in the international level by its member using sustainable palm oil products.

“The companies as RSPO members, including in Java and Bali declared to be ready and supporting it as one strategy to maintain the sustainability of tourism which is the backbone of economy in Bali Province,” he said.

In the same shot, General Manager PT Bali Soap, Mahendra told, the markets are now aware of how many companies produced a product, including about the materials to be applied.

“This is one factor for our company to get success during the hard times – Covid pandemic because our products certified by RSPO were successfully sold in other countries through online,” he said.

Branch Manager PT Budi Jaya Amenities, Ronald Harmanto said that the products in RSPO label would help hotel and restaurant industries to be always relevant with the consumers that prioritize sustainability aspects in their consumption.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Spa Faktori Bali, Maria Satiaputri told, sustainability aspect is one pillar of the company business as the responsibility to positively contribute to human and environment. (T1)
