PALMOILMAGAZINE, YOGYAKARTA – Perhimpunan Hotel dan Restoran Indonesia (PHRI) has expressed its commitment to supporting the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by embracing sustainable palm oil and its derivatives in collaboration with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The aim is to promote the use of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) products within the tourism industry, specifically in hotels and restaurants in Yogyakarta.
PHRI Yogyakarta recognizes Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta as a pioneering region that prioritizes sustainable practices. By responsibly sourcing and utilizing sustainable palm oil, PHRI Yogyakarta aims to contribute to the realization of SDGs and promote environmental sustainability.
To achieve this goal, PHRI Yogyakarta and RSPO will undertake a series of activities aimed at mainstreaming CSPO products in the local tourism industry. This includes encouraging the use of sustainable palm oil-based products such as palm cooking oil, margarine, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and other related items commonly used in hotels and restaurants.
Through this collaborative effort, PHRI Yogyakarta and RSPO aim to create a greener and more sustainable future for the tourism sector in Yogyakarta, setting an example for other regions to follow.

The activity would cover to escalate the understanding and awareness of PHRI Yogyakarta members and other related stakeholders in CSPO, to use RSPO CSPO, and do campaigns about CSPO product use.
Chairman of Badan Promosi Pariwisata Daerah (BPPD) Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, GKR Bendara said tourism industries in the province should be the first in sustainability namely Yogyakarta has philosophy – Memayu Hayuning Bawana, which means, man has his obligation to maintain the harmony with universe that relates to man and God, man to man, and man to nature.
GKR Bendara also told the relationship between man and nature can run well by maintaining the nature itself because if the nature is broken, man cannot live well.
“By using palm oil products which were responsibly produced, this could be one way of PHRI Yogyakarta to implement life philosophy and support local government’s policy which in environmental, social, and welfare perspectives,” he said in the breaking the fasting together with PHRI Yogyakarta in The Alana Yogyakarta Hotel & Convention Centre, that Palmoilmagazine.com did attend, Friday (14/4/2023).
Chairman of PHRI Yogyakarta, Deddy Pranowo Eryono told that it is important to prioritize sustainability aspects as the mainstay of tourism competition in Yogyakarta. “Domestic and foreign tourists now understand and realize about issues about environment and sustainability. They would be more selective to choose products that implement responsible principles. The more parties involve to make our industries sustainable, the better would be for Yogyakarta to answer the consumers’ needs,” he said.
RSPO Deputy Director Market Transformation, Indonesia, Mahatma Windrawan Inantha did appreciate the good will of PHRI Yogyakarta which is realized in a same commitment to start using sustainable products by its members.
“It is time that sustainability becomes a strategy in tourism industries that would make its business relevant to answer the consumers’ needs that care about environmental and social issues. RSPO would fully support it as one strategic partner – PHRI Yogyakarta – to escalate tourism industries in the province to be more sustainable,” Windrawan. (T2)
