PALMOILMAGAZINE, PONTIANAK – Andi Nur Alam Syah, the General Director of Plantation at the Ministry of Agriculture, is urging all stakeholders to uphold the sustainability of Indonesia’s palm oil industry. He views palm oil as a source of pride for Indonesia, particularly at a time when many other commodities are experiencing declining productivity and health.

Speaking at a workshop in Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province, Andi Nur Alam Syah highlighted the dwindling productivity of various commodities such as tea, rubber, sugarcane, and coconut over time. In contrast, palm oil remains resilient and stands as a crucial asset that must be sustained.

To ensure the ongoing sustainability of the palm oil industry, Andi stressed the importance of implementing fair regulations and effective governance, which will be a key focus for the Ministry of Agriculture. He also underscored the commitment to streamline and enforce efficient governance practices for palm oil.

He also talked about smallholders replanting program (SRP) as the way to escalate smallholders’ plantation productivity. It is hoped theirs would be equal to companies’ one.

“Palm oil significantly plays its roles in the economy of Indonesia. SRP would be the key to escalate the smallholders’ plantation productivity,” Andi Nur Alam Syah said as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Antara.

But he continued, it needs to re-manage the helps to get SRP. His institution is formulating the regulations that would simplify the process but accelerate SRP implementation.

“We hope the regulation would be the solution and SRP implementation would face not issue but efficiently runs. The fund that Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management prepares would be fully taken for advantages,” he said.

By realizing these, the government hoped to confirm the sustainability in palm oil industries and support smallholders to escalate theirs and welfare them. (T2)
