PALMOILMAGAZINE, TOLITOLI – Despite being known as a major clove-producing region, Tolitoli Regency faces significant challenges in improving palm oil productivity. According to Herman Madjid, Head of the Plantation and Livestock Office of Tolitoli Regency, the low productivity is mainly due to inadequate infrastructure and the use of low-quality palm oil seeds.

“Many local farmers purchase palm oil seeds online without verifying their quality. As a result, palm oil production in this region remains low,” Herman Madjid stated, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from KBRN RRI, Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

To address this issue, the Plantation and Livestock Office of Tolitoli has taken concrete steps by educating farmers about the importance of using high-quality palm oil seeds. Additionally, the office is developing a Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil, which will serve as a guideline for improving palm oil productivity in the area.

“Through this education program, we hope to see a significant increase in palm oil productivity in Tolitoli Regency,” Herman added.

Tolitoli has great potential for palm oil development, but its productivity remains far lower compared to other regions in Indonesia. Therefore, Herman emphasized the need for strategic initiatives to establish palm oil as a leading commodity that can contribute more significantly to the regional and national economy.

As a key driver of Indonesia’s economy, the palm oil industry provides employment for approximately 16 million people, both directly and indirectly. By enhancing productivity in Tolitoli, the sector is expected to generate positive economic impacts for local communities and maximize the region’s economic potential. (P2)
