PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The government’s approach of bleaching to address the issue of 3.3 million hectares of palm oil plantations in forest areas is not an appropriate solution. This approach overlooks the crucial aspect of law enforcement that should be prioritized. The mastery of palm oil plantations in forest regions encompasses diverse typologies, which necessitates distinct approaches. Not every case can be resolved through bleaching, as stated in the regulations outlined in the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (Undang-Undang Cipta Kerja/UUCK).
General Secretary of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), Mansuetus Darto thought, palm oil plantations in forest areas that corporates, individuals, and smallholders cultivate should base on the field typology.
“The typology can be seen from the subjects that master the areas, width of land mastery, the status of land before having land mastery, and the solution according to every area function. The typology should actually be identified or verified according to the data that the government should have had. It means, the solution can be by law enforcement firmly. On the other hand, the solution could be from forest area mapping,” he said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Tuesday (4/7/2023).

He continued, smallholders’ palm oil plantations in forest areas should be differently getting solution. It could be by implementing affirmative policy in order not to raise social issues, and new poverty in plantations.
“Smallholders’ palm oil plantations should be clearly categorized and defined. The base should be from the smallholders’ characteristic, such as, identity, clear domicile, width, time of land mastery and other relevant characteristic to deliver better solution and be transparent,” Darto said. (T2)
