PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Smallholders’ palm oil plantations should always develop well in upstream sector (plantation productivity develops). They have to get the targets, do cultivation, and get the industries.
“My term is that palm oil is like a 100 carat – gold. It is not 24 carat gold. Our country needs it,” said Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).
For cultivating 42% of the total palm oil plantations in Indonesia, independent smallholders cannot be put aside.

SYL said that the smallholders should also contribute to make this country develop and powerful but not by destroying them.
“Taking partnership with smallholders is our obligation,” he said when inaugurating Rembug Tani Nasional Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia 2023 that Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS) did in Jakarta where InfoSAWIT also attended, Thursday (31/8/2023).
SYL thought, just like what President Joko Widodo told, the government should support the partnership with the smallholders to escalate the economy but the partnership should not make them ‘spoiled’ but they have to get hard work. “SPKS, for all these years never burdens the government but we always do assistant,” SYL said.
