PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – To achieve the goal of halal product assurance, the Government of Indonesia has enacted various regulations, including Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Guarantee. This law aims to implement a halal product assurance system in Indonesia and specifies which products require halal certification. Palm oil is among the commodities that must obtain halal certification and is included in the first phase of the regulation’s implementation.
Some palm oil products that require halal certification include refined bleached deodorized palm kernel oil (RBDPKO), refined bleached deodorized palm oil (RBDPO), refined bleached deodorized palm olein, refined bleached deodorized palm stearin (RBDPS), and palm cooking oil. This certification is crucial for ensuring traceability and verifying the halal status of the production process.
Aman Mustika, Chairman of the Jakarta Planter Club (JPC), stated that halal certification introduces new activities related to traceability. It is essential to ensure that fresh fruit bunches (FFB) come from clean sources (free from contamination such as cow feces), are not stolen, and that all supporting materials used in palm oil processing are halal.

Aman Mustika continued, halal certificate would raise pro and contra but from JPC perspective, it would deliver additional values for palm oil products themselves. “By having halal certificate, palm oil products would have additional value significantly,” Aman said to Palmoilmagazine.com.
Aman Mustika hoped that the government would deliver easiness when having halal cetification process and avoiding the long term – process or involving many instances. This would be very important to run the process efficiently and effectively.
Halal certificate on palm oil would deliver not only guarantee for the Islam consumers about the halal products they consume but also would escalate palm oil competition from Indonesia to the world. It would be easily accepted in international scale – markets that may deliver terms and conditions in halal products, such as, the countries in Middle East and some countries in Southeast Asia.
Besides, halal certification would escalate the consumers’ trust on palm oil both in this country and others. This would be positive to escalate palm oil exports and reinforce Indonesia as the biggest palm oil producer in the word. (T2)
