PALMOILMAGAZINE, MESUJI – The fire that began on Friday, August 9, 2024, in palm oil plantations operated by a private company in Sriwijaya Village (C2), Tanjung Raya Subdistrict, Mesuji, continued burning through Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Despite efforts by fire officers, the flames persisted, consuming approximately 60 hectares of palm oil plantations over the three days. The combination of strong winds and dry land, exacerbated by the dry season, has complicated fire suppression efforts.
According to a report from the Pusdalops Regional Disaster Management Agency (RDMA) Lampung Province, shared via BMKG Lampung’s Instagram, the fire occurred within the private plantation’s area.
The fire control team that consists of four persons of RDMA, five officers of fire officers, ten officers of the company’s workers, kept doing their best to extinguish the fire. The used one machine of fire extinguisher, a unit alkon, one car to supply water to extinguish the fire and block the fire (not to get spread).

Prior, Geophysics, Climatology, Meteorology Agency (GCMA) published early warning system about the potential of hard rain and draught that would last from August 2024 to January 2024. The extreme weather caused by La Nina, would escalate the fire risks in many regions, including in Lampung Province.
GCMA did warn that meteorologic drought that started by the early of August 2024 would be in alert classification. The people and related parties should keep monitoring every fire risk that would happen in many regions in Indonesia. (P2)
