As Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Bisnis Indoensia, Saturday (28/9/2024), the land use change corruption that involved Surya Darmadi, had something to do with forest area conversion in Riau Province to be palm oil plantations. In the sentence of Corruption Crime Court, Central Jakarta on 23 February 2023, Surya Darmadi was found guilty and sentenced to get 15 years in jail and fine about Rp 1 billion. Besides, he was forced to pay the replacement case for about Rp 2.23 trillion and the loss of the country for about Rp 39,7 trillion.

The Judge also mentioned that his assets would be taken to auction to recover the replacement case and the loss of the country. If the assets are not enough still, there would be additional jail for five years to go.

The prosecutors also sued him to get sentence life in jail and asked that Surya Darmadi should pay fine about Rp 1 billion and give back the loss of the country for tens of trillion rupiah. But the Corruption Crime Court did not find enough evidences to sentence him as the actor of money laundry.

For the judicial review has been rejected, he has to be in jail for the next 16 years and pay the fine and replacement case as what the court sentenced. (P2)
