PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Tensions have resurfaced in an ongoing land dispute in Pantap Village, Mentaya Hulu District, East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, after local residents opposed a company’s reported attempt to establish a temporary tent on land that remains the subject of legal proceedings.
According to a report by Kaltengpedia, cited by Palmoilmagazine.com on Tuesday (June 30, 2026), the incident was captured in a video that quickly circulated across social media, drawing widespread public attention and sparking debate.
Based on information accompanying the video, the residents involved identified themselves as plaintiffs in the land dispute. They argued that the company’s activities were carried out without consultation with community members who claim ownership rights over the contested area.
The footage also reflects lingering concerns among residents over an incident that reportedly occurred at the same location on May 13, 2026. Community members said the earlier event was perceived as a unilateral action, leading them to reject any new activities on the disputed land until the court issues a final and legally binding ruling.
“All parties should respect the ongoing judicial process,” the narrative accompanying the circulating video stated.
Residents further alleged that the company has yet to obtain a Right-to-Cultivate (HGU) permit covering the disputed area. They also questioned the status of compensation for crops, vegetation, and land that they claim belongs to local communities.

As of the time of publication, neither the company nor relevant authorities had issued an official statement regarding the viral video. The full sequence of events and the latest legal status of the land dispute have also not been independently confirmed.
Authorities are reportedly continuing to monitor the situation to maintain public order and prevent further confrontation while the dispute remains unresolved.
Land conflicts in Mentaya Hulu District have drawn public attention on multiple occasions in recent years, largely due to overlapping ownership claims between local communities and plantation companies operating in the region. The latest incident underscores the importance of resolving agrarian disputes through transparent legal processes and constructive dialogue among all stakeholders.
