PALMOILMAGAZINE, TOKYO – Sustainable palm oil is gaining ground as a key ingredient in Japan’s renowned beauty industry (J-Beauty), aligning with the country’s growing emphasis on sustainability and responsibly sourced raw materials. Known for its versatility, palm oil is widely used in skincare and cosmetic products due to its smooth texture and emollient properties, which enhance user experience.
Palm oil also contains natural antioxidants such as vitamin E, which help extend the shelf life of beauty products—especially those made with natural ingredients. According to the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), Malaysia’s exports of palm-based oleochemicals to Japan—including palm kernel fatty acids and glycerin—have been on the rise in recent years, despite a temporary slowdown during the pandemic.
Forecasts for 2024 indicate a positive outlook for these exports, fueled by strong demand from Japan’s cosmetics sector. Malaysia’s commitment to sustainable practices further boosts the appeal of palm oil in an environmentally conscious Japanese market. (P2)
