South Kalimantan Province Takes Bold Step to Boost Food Security

PALMOILMAGAZINE, BANJARBARU – The Livestock and Plantation Agency of South Kalimantan Province has taken a proactive stance to enhance food security within the region. Launching the first planting under the Smallholders Replanting Program (SRP) for plasma and intercropping with paddy gogo, this initiative marks a significant milestone for Kalimantan Island, with its inauguration in Kotabaru on Wednesday (April 24, 2024).

Agus Dyan Nur, Governor’s expert staff in Economy and Development at the South Kalimantan Secretariat, representing Governor Sahbirin Noor, emphasized that the intercropping program between palm oil and paddy gogo represents a remarkable breakthrough. Not only does it offer an innovative solution to address the challenges of the current era, but it also meets the essential need of the people of South Kalimantan: rice.

The province warmly welcomed and appreciated the initiative spearheaded by the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA). This underscores the genuine commitment and collaboration among various stakeholders to uphold food security, particularly regarding rice, which is a matter of significant concern.

Not only that, the province also plays its roles as one pillar of food security in national level. It declared its self as the Gate of Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) and as part of the commitment, South Kalimantan should be ready to be the supporting and pillar region for IKN. (T2)
