PALMOILMAGAZINE, PONTIANAK – The Smallholders Replanting Program (SRP) conducted by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) in West Kalimantan Province has seen significant success.
Since its inception in 2018 up to December 2023, the SRP has covered approximately 20,300 hectares in the province, with a total realization of Rp 492.641 billion.
Erita Fitriani, Head of Infrastructure and Plantation Protection at the Livestock and Plantation Agency of West Kalimantan Province, stated that the SRP target for 2024 is to cover 10,200 hectares. This target will encompass eight regencies: Ketapang, Sanggau, Landak, Sambas, Bengkayang, Kubu Raya, Sekadau, and Sintang.
“We would monitor so that SRP realization in West Kalimantan Province would be maximal and deliver the positive to escalate plantation productivity and planters’ welfare in this province,” she said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Antara, Tuesday (16/7/2024).
But SRP realization has something to do with some challenges, such as, legal areas that has not freehold title, the complex issue about forest area status and business rights, and the minimal roles of plantation companies to get partnership proposal.
Erita thought, the other challenges are about the expensive fresh fruit bunch (FFB) that made many smallholders reluctant to get SRP. Besides, the lack of latest information about other progress after signing agreement with the third parties.
To monitor and measure the successful SRP, the agency conducted socialization and assessment about the planters’ physical plantations in 2024. The goal would be about to confirm that SRP would be running in standards, to escalate and optimize the plantation productivity in West Kalimantan. (P2)
