PALMOILMAGAZINE, MALANG – Smallholders in Malang Regency have expressed frustration over the low prices and delayed payments for fresh fruit bunches (FFB). Samenun, a smallholder from Gedangan Subdistrict, reported that despite the government-set FFB price of approximately IDR 3,000 per kilogram, companies are only paying IDR 1,000 per kilogram.
Samenun also highlighted that payments are often delayed by four to six months, making financial management difficult. “The price is too low, and the payment is very late. Sometimes, we don’t receive payment until four to six months after the sale,” Samenun said at the inauguration of the Andalan Fishermen Farmers Group (KTNA) in Malang District, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from TribunJatim on Friday, July 26, 2025.
He urged the government to address this issue promptly and noted that the Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (APKSI) has already started to tackle the problem by organizing a workshop in Malang to find solutions. “Recently, our concerns were addressed by the smallholders’ association, and we had a workshop in Malang. We hope that palm oil plantations will be further developed in Malang Regency,” Samenun added.

Regent of Malang, Sanusi said that APKSI and Ministry of Agriculture did conduct workshop in the regency to enliven the spirit of smallholders. “Many abandoned areas here to be planted by palm oil. It would not need much water or complicated nursery,” he said by hoping that by conducting the workshop, palm oil plantation potential in the regency would develop more.
Chairman of KTNA Regency of Malang, Choirul Anam said that the smallholders would need solution so that their harvest would not be sold out of Java for the unstable selling price. “The production gets more and more every day. For all these years, they sold it to other regions. The price was not determined by the general trade. It depended on others’ will. If there are lots of needs, FFB price could be expensive but when the production got much, it got cheaper,” he said.
Choirul mentioned many palm oil plantaitons developed in the regency, namely in Sub district of Donomulyo and Gedangan. The land is dry but good to develop palm oil. By this, he hoped to get solution to get stable price and better payment system to the smallholders in the Regency of Malang. (P2)
