Various activities conducted by SPKS in oil palm plantation centers, always encourage the improvement of the best and sustainable cultivation practices for oil palm plantations by oil palm farmers. According to Sabarudin, the successful development of oil palm plantations requires a peaceful and cool situation for the community. Therefore, the presence of the government is always needed, especially for the central areas of oil palm plantations in Indonesia.

For SPKS, the presence and alignment of the government towards oil palm plantations is always needed, so that it can assist oil palm farmers in carrying out the best cultivation practices and sustainability in their management. Many problems are still faced by most oil palm farmers, such as the circulation of fake seeds, the increasingly expensive selling price of superior seeds, expensive fertilizer prices and the need for access to education for oil palm farmers.

“The government’s partiality and support for oil palm farmers is always needed so that farmers can continue to carry out the best and sustainable cultivation practices in the future,” Sabarudin explained.

Efforts to improve the cultivation practices of oil palm smallholders have now been carried out together with the central and local governments and various other civil organizations. However, this improvement effort needs acceleration in the field and still needs a lot of support from the government to ensure the existence of oil palm farmers in meeting various sustainability requirements in managing their oil palm plantations.

“The acceleration of the legality of farmers’ land is still always needed, because the existence of oil palm plantations owned by many farmers is experiencing problems in the field and needs full support from the newly formed government,” Sabarudin said.

SPKS also hopes that the success of the election of Indonesia’s new leaders will further strengthen the existence of oil palm farmers as part of the pillars of national development. Therefore, the existence of oil palm farmers with the new government will hopefully be more advanced and prosperous. (P3)
