PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Accelerating the acquisition of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certifications for smallholders is of utmost importance. The growing demand for sustainable palm oil production adds to the urgency.
Mansuetus Darto, the General Secretary of Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), emphasized the institution’s responsibility and dedication to facilitate sustainable certification and enhance governance in smallholders’ plantations.
SPKS that has about 75 thousand smallholders in 9 provinces, targeted that 4000 members should get ISPO and RSPO certificates in 2025. “SPKS targets that in 2023 – 2025 about 4.000 members should be in ISPO and RSPO certificate process,” he said when inaugurating Diskusi Nasional Sawit Berkelanjutan with the theme “Mendorong Peran Aktif Koperasi dalam Peningkatan Produktivitas Kebun dan Percepatan Sertifikasi Berkelanjutan Petani Sawit Swadaya di Indonesia,” in Jakarta, that Palmoilmagazine.com attended, Monday (31/7/2023).

He continued, it would be possible because as long as SPKS experienced, the smallholders’ institution successfully encouraged 5 unions to get ISPO and RSPO certificates in just one year.
“If every stakeholder can cooperate, we would be able to accelerate sustainable certification for independent smallholders – the members of SPKS. 1.400 members have got ISPO and RSPO certificates in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Sumatera,” Darto said.
Deputy in Food Agribusiness Coordination Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Musdhalifah Machmud in her speech, asked for every stakeholder to convince the world that palm oil plantations do not damage but deliver lots of advantages to many, and encourage sustainable development goals.
She also encouraged smallholders to unite, collaborate to get ISPO and RSPO certificate. “Let us unite, encourage our unions to get ISPO certificate through available regulations,” Musdhalifah said. (T2)
