PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Government has set a deadline of November 2, 2023, for addressing palm oil plantation permits within forested areas. This regulatory initiative is outlined in Law Number 11/2020, known as the “Undang – Undang Cipta Kerja (UUCK).”
The permit resolution process will be categorized into two typologies: Chapter 110A and Chapter 110B, covering a combined target area of approximately 3.37 million hectares.
Chapter 110A pertains to palm oil plantations that possess valid plantation business permits and spatial permits but are situated within production forests, protected forests, and conservation forests. Chapter 110B, on the other hand, addresses the resolution for palm oil plantations that operate within production forests, protected forests, and conservation forests without the required forestry permits or possess illegal permits.

General Secretary of Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF), Bambang Hendroyono claimed 90 percent of palm oil plantations that were indicated to operate the business in forest regions have been solved managed by Chapter 110A. The permits were from palm oil plantations in Central Kalimantan about 516.000 hectares, then Riau, Jambi, South Sumatera, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Kepulauan Riau, Bangka Belitung, East Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.
He also emphasized that every planter should immediately deal with forest region release namely those who knew the policy. He also took them to propose and report the mechanism both to related ministries and fill the form in Sistem Informasi Perizinan Perkebunan (Siperibun).
As quoted from Bisnis.com, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial/National Land Agency, Hadi Tjahjanto said that palm oil plantation permit governance in forest regions now runs well. Many planters registered their plantations to get forest region release status. But in association with permit registration time to get longer, Hadi said that everything would be discussed with the related instances for the next couples of days.
Facing the deadline, the government also took related instances to cooperate, obey every available regulation to solve palm oil plantations in forest regions. (T2)
