PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – As the largest palm oil producer globally, Indonesia boasts an impressive production of 47 million tons of crude palm oil (CPO).
According data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), palm oil markets in Indonesia held a dominant position, accounting for 59% of global CPO production.
Let’s delve into some of the provinces in Indonesia that play a crucial role in CPO production and their respective market dynamics.

The first, Riau Province is the most productive CPO producer in Indonesia with the market 21%. Riau province significantly contribute to CPO production nationally.
The second, Central Kalimantan Province plays important roles in palm oil production in Indonesia with the markets 15%.
The third, North Sumatera Province, has the wide palm oil plantations with CPO markets 13%. Its CPO production plays roles to fulfill domestic and international scale – demands.
The fourth, East Kalimantan Province. Though the markets jut reached 8%, CPO production in East Kalimantan contributes to Indonesia and significant to the nation.
The fifth, South Sumatera province. It is one biggest CPO producer in Indonesia with the market 8%. The geography and climate really support to develop palm oil plantation in the province.
Within each contribution from the province, Indonesia successfully maintains its position as the biggest CPO producer in the world within significant markets.
The planters pay attention and maintain environment in palm oil cultivation, such as, implementing Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to realize sustainable plantations and to not damage ecosystem. (T2)
