PALMOILMAGAZINE, BEKASI — PT Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (PT RPN) reaffirmed its commitment to driving digital transformation in the plantation sector by actively participating in a public lecture titled “Scope and Development of Geographic Information System (GIS) Technology in Oil Palm Plantations.”
Hosted by Politeknik Citra Widya Edukasi (CWE) in mid-March 2025, the event brought together lecturers, students from the Oil Palm Cultivation program, and industry professionals from Terra Drone and NusaGIS, a digital mapping unit under PT RPN.
During the session, PT RPN—through its NusaGIS team—shared valuable insights on how GIS technology is revolutionizing plantation management. The technology enables accurate land mapping, soil fertility analysis, data-driven fertilization planning, early disease detection, and efficient transport route optimization—paving the way for more precise, efficient, and sustainable plantation operations.

The Head of CWE Polytechnic’s Oil Palm Cultivation program expressed appreciation for PT RPN’s involvement.
“We hope this activity deepens students’ understanding of GIS technology and serves as a stepping stone for developing specialized curricula and certification programs in this field,”
they stated, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from RPN’s official site on Friday (April 18, 2025).
Two key speakers led the lecture: Masyitah Tri Andari from NusaGIS PT RPN, who explored strategies for using GIS to enhance plantation efficiency, and Faris Hizba from Terra Drone, who discussed drone applications in field mapping and analysis. The interactive Q&A session following the presentations reflected students’ strong interest in applying this technology to real-world scenarios.
Through this initiative, PT RPN emphasized the importance of digital technology mastery among the next generation of plantation professionals. Beyond improving access to accurate spatial data, GIS expertise is seen as a vital tool in supporting data-driven policies and sustainable plantation practices. (P2)
