PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The palm oil mill owned by PT. Syaukat Sejahtera, located adjacent to the paddy fields of Keude Lapang villagers in Bireuen District, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) Province, poses a potential threat of water pollution in the area.
The mill processes fresh fruit bunches (FFB) to produce crude palm oil (CPO) and has a waste pool situated dangerously close to the agricultural lands of the villagers. The community has been raising concerns about this issue with the company for the past six years.
Some farmers in Village of Gampong Lapang Timur, Sub district of Ganda Pura, District of Bireuen, NAD Province have complained their paddy field condition which got damage because the water that flows to their areas is black. The villagers told, water acidity level (pH) is about 4 to 5. For information water acidity level has limit that is 7 (pH = 7).
The villagers complained to Editorials of Palmoilmagazine.com so that the company would deliver solution about the issue. The farmers’ paddy fields are parts of national food security (program).

A 44 – year old villager of Kaude Lapang told their paddy fields might be polluted from waste pool from the mill of PT. Syaukat Sejahtera for being too close with the villagers’ areas. As the result, the water that flows to paddy fields is black and makes pollution. He hoped that the mill should get solution so that the assumption would not happen because this issue runs for years and needs fast improvement.
Through what InfoSAWIT informed, PT. Syaukat Sejahtera should deliver response and solution for the villagers, fast improvement to realize the same good situation. Besides, agencies in charge in the district should involve the villagers and the company to get solution.
“We hope, through Media Palmoilmagazine.com, this would get the best solution and water pollution assumption in villagers’ paddy fields would be no more,” the villager told Palmoilmagazine.com.
He also informed that once Chairman of Commission 2 Special Legislators of Bireuen, Abu Suhai did a visit about one month ago to the location. The local Legislators visited paddy fields in blang Paloeh , Villager of Lapang Timung, Sub district of Gandapura, District of Bireuen that got damage because of acid water too much. “But there is no follow up until today,” the villager said.
