PALMOILMAGAZINE, KUTAI BARAT — Deep within the palm oil plantations of Damai Subdistrict, West Kutai Regency, a new light is shining—not from electricity or infrastructure, but from restored vision and renewed hope. For six residents of remote villages, the world has become bright again, thanks to the compassionate initiative of THA Group.
The palm oil company—parent to PT Kruing Lestari Jaya, PT Harapan Rimba Raya, and PT Rimba Rayatama Jaya—is proving that business can be a force for good. In partnership with Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation and Sabang Merauke Eye Center (SMEC) Samarinda, THA Group recently facilitated free cataract surgeries for six villagers from Mantar, Muara Niliq, and Besiq during a health mission held from April 28 to 30, 2025.
The company covered not only the surgical costs but also transportation, accommodation, and meals throughout the treatment process. This effort is part of THA Group’s broader social commitment through its 5K Program, which targets cataracts, hernias, and cleft conditions in communities surrounding its operations.

“This initiative reflects our moral responsibility—not just a CSR effort,” said Lewi Robi D. Magang, Chief Operating Officer of THA Group, in a statement to Palmoilmagazine.com on Sunday (May 4, 2025). “Our goal is to create a five-kilometer radius around each of our business units where these preventable conditions no longer exist.”
This sense of responsibility goes beyond funding. THA Group employees were directly involved in identifying patients, coordinating logistics, and accompanying them throughout the process. “We don’t just want to make a difference in numbers—we want to make a difference in people’s lives,” said one field staff member who traveled with the patients.
Severa Ernesta, SPd, Acting Subdistrict Head of Damai, expressed deep appreciation for the company’s ongoing community support. “THA Group is more than just a company—they’re a caring neighbor. While others turn a blind eye, they’re helping people literally open theirs again,” she remarked sincerely.
And the impact is real. Mr. Rustansyah from Muara Niliq can now see his grandchildren’s faces. Mr. Siwan from Mantar is eager to return to farming. Their renewed spirit is a result of THA Group’s initiative—bringing light not just to their eyes, but to their futures.
In a time when many companies focus solely on profits, THA Group is taking a different path—becoming a beacon of hope for local communities. Through tangible acts of compassion, they send a powerful message: business success should walk hand in hand with social progress and shared prosperity.
Their efforts may not change the world overnight, but for the six residents of Damai, it has changed their world forever. (P2)
