A forest and land fire in the concession area of PT Mayawana Persada in West Kalimantan has prompted PT Jalin Vaneo to deploy firefighting equipment and personnel, working alongside forestry authorities, the military and police to prevent the blaze from spreading.
PALMOILMAGAZINE, KAYONG UTARA — A forest and land fire has broken out in the concession area of PT Mayawana Persada in Kayong Utara, West Kalimantan, prompting neighboring plantation company PT Jalin Vaneo to deploy its Manggala Agni firefighting team to help contain the blaze.
The fire, which has been burning since September 6, is located outside PT Jalin Vaneo’s plantation area but borders the company’s operational concession. The proximity of the fire prompted the company to mobilize personnel and firefighting equipment, including high-capacity water pumps and a tanker truck.

According to a report by Suara Pemred Kalbar cited by PalmOilMagazine on September 10, the firefighting operation is being coordinated with the Kayong Utara Forest Management Unit (KPH), as well as personnel from the Indonesian military and police.
The joint operation is aimed at containing the fire and preventing it from spreading into surrounding areas.
PT Jalin Vaneo General Manager Martua Siahaan said the fire was not located within the company’s plantation concession and stressed that there had been no fire incident inside the company’s operational area.

“The fire occurred outside PT Jalin Vaneo’s plantation. People should not assume that it happened within our concession simply because PT Mayawana Persada’s area borders our plantation,” Martua said.
He added that PT Jalin Vaneo had not experienced a fire within its plantation area.
“Fortunately, there has never been a fire inside the PT Jalin Vaneo area,” he said.

Despite the fire occurring outside its concession, the company said it had decided to assist in the response to reduce the risk of the blaze spreading into nearby areas.
Martua said PT Jalin Vaneo would continue to maintain firefighting readiness and support surrounding villages in addressing the threat of forest and land fires.
The company’s involvement forms part of a broader effort to protect air quality and surrounding ecosystems during a period of heightened wildfire risk.

The operation also highlights the importance of cross-sector cooperation in responding to forest and land fires. Firefighting efforts require rapid deployment of personnel, adequate equipment and coordination between government agencies, security forces, companies and local communities.
The deployment of water pumps and tanker trucks is expected to strengthen containment efforts on the ground, while early detection and reporting of new hotspots remain critical to preventing fires from expanding.
PT Jalin Vaneo has also called on communities around its operational area to help monitor potential fire outbreaks and immediately report any new hotspots to enable a faster response.
