PALMOILMAGAZINE, ST. PETERSBURG – The expansion of Indonesia’s crude palm oil (CPO) exports to Russia emerged as a key point during a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantin Palace on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
During the high-level talks, Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Nikolaevna Lut extended an official invitation to Indonesia’s Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, for a special visit to Russia in October 2025.
The invitation reflects both countries’ shared commitment to deepening strategic cooperation in agriculture, particularly focusing on key commodities like palm oil. Russia has expressed strong interest in increasing its imports of Indonesian CPO as part of its broader efforts to enhance national food and energy security.

The ministers discussed five key areas of agricultural cooperation:
- Boosting investment in the sugar sector through bilateral partnerships,
- Expanding access for Indonesian CPO exports to Russia,
- Developing joint fertilizer production facilities,
- Opening up Indonesian markets to Russian meat imports, and
- Strengthening collaboration in agricultural research and technology.
President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to expand its strategic partnership with Indonesia across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, defense, and space exploration. “We see many opportunities and have the capacity to grow together with Indonesia,” he said.
President Prabowo responded positively, highlighting the strong and growing bilateral ties, especially in economic cooperation and trade of strategic commodities. “Our relationship continues to progress. It provides a strong foundation for long-term partnership,” he noted.
For Indonesia, enhancing CPO exports to Russia opens access to a key Eurasian market, strengthening its trade position and expanding economic opportunities. Minister Amran emphasized that the official invitation is a crucial moment to follow up on tangible opportunities that can drive export growth and attract new investments in the agricultural sector.
The upcoming visit in October 2025 is expected to advance Indonesia’s commodity diplomacy, expand CPO market access, and accelerate the country’s agricultural transformation toward a more modern, sustainable, and export-oriented system. (P3)
