Indonesia’s palm oil association says Presidential Instruction No. 11/2026 strengthens coordination, preparedness, and enforcement of the ban on land clearing by burning.
PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) has welcomed the issuance of Presidential Instruction No. 11/2026 on Strengthening Enforcement of the Ban on Land Clearing by Burning and Forest and Land Fire Control.
GAPKI said the new directive would strengthen joint efforts to prevent and manage forest and land fires, while improving preparedness among all stakeholders.

The Presidential Instruction, known as Inpres No. 11/2026, reinforces the prohibition on land clearing through burning, strengthens coordination and law enforcement, and tightens provisions concerning exceptions related to local wisdom. It also emphasizes the importance of adequate facilities and infrastructure for forest and land fire prevention and response.
GAPKI Chairman Eddy Martono said stronger government direction was important to ensure that all stakeholders shared a common understanding and approach in addressing the risk of forest and land fires.
“GAPKI appreciates the Government’s direction through Presidential Instruction No. 11/2026. Forest and land fire prevention requires preparedness as well as strong collaboration among all parties. The Government, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and communities each have complementary roles,” Eddy said in an official statement received by PalmOilMagazine on Friday (Sept. 4, 2026).

He said a spirit of mutual cooperation, coordination, and shared responsibility needed to be continuously strengthened so that potential fires could be prevented at the earliest possible stage.
GAPKI also welcomed the clarification regarding the use of local wisdom, which must be implemented strictly, proportionally, and in accordance with applicable requirements and regulations.
According to GAPKI, the clarification is important to ensure that local wisdom continues to be respected without being misinterpreted as a general justification for land clearing by burning.

The association also views the strengthening of facilities and infrastructure for forest and land fire control as an important component of implementing the Presidential Instruction.
GAPKI will continue encouraging its member companies to ensure the readiness of resources, personnel, equipment, monitoring systems, and early-response mechanisms in accordance with applicable regulations.
Eddy stressed that forest and land fires require consistent involvement from all stakeholders and cannot be addressed by any single party working alone.

“The stronger the collaboration between the Government, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and communities, the greater our ability to prevent fires from spreading and ensure that forest and land fire problems do not continue to recur. This is the spirit we need to maintain together,” he said.
GAPKI also reaffirmed its commitment to no-burning land clearing practices and sustainable forest and land fire prevention efforts.
Coordination with the central government, regional governments, and other relevant stakeholders will continue to be strengthened to support implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 11/2026.

Through consistent and collaborative implementation of the directive, GAPKI expects forest and land fire prevention and control efforts to become more effective while protecting public safety, supporting sustainable economic activities, and preserving the environment. (P3)
