“The smart empowerment is we really protect environment. In the digital protection, we use indicative map by using drone. The results from the drone, we captured the photos of our earth,” Sri Wahyui said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of East Kalimantan Province, Sunday (30/7/2023).

By this technology, photos from drone clearly showed the areas in high conservation values (HCV) or in high carbon values. Such locations are clearly seen from digital technology.

Digitalization is very helpful to map palm oil plantations that have HCV to be always protected and should not be planted. Every planter commits not to substitute such areas that have been put into data to have HCV.

“Everything is on the map. In East Kalimantan, there have been 602.000 hectares of HCV. These should not be planted and the planters commit on the areas,” she said.

The indicative maps would always be monitored by digital system. Every information about location, width, coordinate of map is on the indicative map by using information technology and digitalization.

“It means, everything can be seen if the areas have been planted or not,” Secretary Sri Wahyuni said.

She continued for the past three years, East Kalimantan successfully avoid the fire in the forests and areas in HCV. This happened for many parties implemented their roles, including the indigenous people, groups of masyarakat peduli api, and others.

Besides, the villagers that illegally cultivated the forest now get areas around the forests. They got seed helps to be more productive and would not cut off the trees into deep forests. By having areas and plantations, they care more to maintain the forest conserved. (T2)
