PALMOILMAGAZINE, PUTRAJAYA – In response to public complaints, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs conducted raids on three convenience stores across different regions. Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali confirmed that these raids were initiated based on information provided to the ministry by concerned citizens.
Commencing at 11:45, ministry officials discovered various flavors of ice cream labeled “NPO” (No Palm Oil) within the stores. These products, totaling RM 897.60 in sales, were promptly sealed for further investigation. The case will be examined under the Trade Descriptions (Prohibition of Statement Use, Expressions, or Indications) Palm Oil and Palm Oil Products Regulation of 2022.
Minister Armizan emphasized that if found guilty, the offending stores could face fines of up to RM 250,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of five years. The regulation, enforced since March 15, 2022, has prompted the ministry to conduct 5,057 inspections nationwide, resulting in the discovery of four similar cases.

Minister Armizan also emphasized that the ministry would firmly act to every importer, distributor, seller and related company if they sell import products which are against to the related regulations in Malaysia. Every violation covers the statement or expression that discriminates or boycott products that relate to palm oil, as the main commodity in the country.
“There would be firm action for every importer, distributor, seller or related company if they sell import products which are against to the related regulations,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from Bernama, Thursday (9/5/2024). (T2)
