PALMOILMAGAZINE, PEKANBARU – Sudin, Chairman of Commission IV of the Indonesian Legislature, addressed the issue of palm oil plantation migration from Java to Sumatra, highlighting the lack of clear status regarding whether these plantations are within forest production areas.
He emphasized the importance of clarifying this status before designating these areas for smallholders. “We need to obtain accurate data and discuss it with the National Land Agency to find solutions,” he said, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from TV Parlemen on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
Similarly, Hanan Rojak, a member of Commission IV, noted that for smallholders to benefit from rehabilitation programs, palm oil plantations must be removed from production forest areas. He stressed the need for a resolution to ensure that smallholders receive the necessary support for rehabilitating their plantations.
“Both the smallholders and the companies’ plantations, some of them are in forest regions. That is why one condition of rehabilitation program is that the plantations should be out of forest regions” he said when having work visit to Regency of Pelalawan, Riau Province, Monday (22/7)
Commission IV Indonesian Legislators hoped after having discussion with PPN, there should be solution to solve palm oil plantations in forest regions. This would be about to accelerate rehabilitation program and deliver bigger advantages for the smallholders in Indonesia. (P2)
