PALMOILMAGAZINE, MAKASSAR – In May 2024, PT Sulsel Citra Indonesia (SCI) (Perseroda) and Gabungan Pengusaha Perkebunan Indonesia (GPPI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance the Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt Program. This initiative was revived due to the island’s significant potential for palm oil industry development.
Machmud Achmad, Director at PT SCI, explained that the Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt, an existing initiative being re-launched, aims to develop palm oil plantations and industries across the island, from South Sulawesi to North Sulawesi. The program targets the development of one million hectares of plantations.
“The program will bring substantial benefits to South Sulawesi Province, including utilizing previously abandoned areas,” said Machmud Achmad, as reported by Palmoilmagazine.com from KBRN RRI on Friday, August 23, 2024.

He also noted that one key advantage of palm oil plantations is the stability of fresh fruit bunch prices compared to other commodities. Additionally, the by-products from palm oil cultivation have potential for sale and could generate carbon funds.
Machmud also emphasized by realizing the program, FFB price in the future would be regulated better, delivering stable economy for the smallholders and stakeholders in the region.
Sulawesi Palm Oil Belt should be the main factor to develop economy in Sulawesi and support sustainable palm oil industries in Indonesia. (P2)
