PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Wilmar International Limited (Wilmar) has announced that its short- and long-term science-based carbon emission reduction targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This move underscores Wilmar’s commitment to science-based climate action and aligns with global efforts to tackle climate change.

“The targets approved by SBTi reflect Wilmar’s dedication to meaningfully reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with scientific knowledge,” said Jeremy Goon, Chief Sustainability Officer of Wilmar, in a statement quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Wilmar’s Emission Reduction Targets

Wilmar’s targets, validated under the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard and the SBTi Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) Guidance, include absolute reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as Scope 3 emissions related to its supply chain.

Wilmar has committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.4% by 2032, with 2022 as the base year. Additionally, the company aims to cut Scope 3 GHG emissions—covering the purchase of goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and processing of sold products—by 30% in the same period.

In the long term, Wilmar targets an absolute reduction of 90% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050. The company also aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 90% in the aforementioned categories, including downstream transportation and distribution.

Under the SBTi FLAG Guidance, Wilmar has pledged to reduce Scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 36.4% by 2032 compared to the 2022 base year. By 2050, the company plans to reduce emissions by 72% in the same categories.

Wilmar reaffirms its commitment to transparency and will report progress on these targets in accordance with SBTi guidelines and global best practices. With this initiative, Wilmar hopes to encourage the agribusiness industry to adopt science-based, sustainable climate action. (P2)
