PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture has praised an innovative initiative led by PTPN IV PalmCo in collaboration with Rumah Sawit Indonesia (RSI), marking the first successful harvest of Gogo Paddy on 5 hectares of land designated for the national oil palm replanting program (Peremajaan Sawit Rakyat/PSR) in Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province.
Heru Tri Widarto, Acting Director General of Plantations at the Ministry, described the achievement as a clear example of cross-sector collaboration in utilizing plantation land to support Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency goals.
“Cultivating Gogo Paddy on dryland and plantation areas shows significant potential to strengthen national food production,” Heru stated during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (May 29). He expressed hope that this intercropping model could be scaled up, particularly across Sumatra, and serve as a model for RSI farmer members.

The harvest, carried out on Tuesday (May 27), was the result of efforts by oil palm farmers from the Dwi Jaya Cooperative (KUD) in Tanjung Sari Village, Bahar Selatan Sub-district, Muaro Jambi. This initiative is part of the “TAMPAN” program (Tanam Padi PTPN), which promotes the productive use of PSR land through intercropping systems.
Irwan Perangin Angin, RSI Vice Chairman and Director of Institutional Relations at PTPN IV PalmCo, emphasized that the harvest’s success was made possible thanks to the strong support of the Ministry of Agriculture through the Directorate General of Plantations.
“We also extend our gratitude to the Jambi Provincial Government and the Muaro Jambi Regency Government for their tangible support that made this harvest possible,” Irwan added.
According to local agricultural office data, rice planting areas in Jambi Province reached 61,035 hectares in 2023, producing 274,056 tons of upland rice. These figures rose in 2024 to 64,120 hectares with a production of 291,037 tons, signaling a positive trend in the region’s food sector.
This rice cultivation program on PSR land is part of a broader strategic collaboration involving the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, and IPB University.
Irwan noted that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision to enhance national food security. “This reflects our corporate commitment to actively contribute in addressing the challenges of future food resilience,” he concluded. (P2)
