PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Professor of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University Rachmat Pambudy, emphasized the importance of implementing policies for the palm oil industry to address various issues. He suggested that the government should consider adopting protection policies.

Professor Pambudy advocated for both active and passive protection measures, supported by funds from the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA). “Palm oil has the potential to be used as a tool for both offense and defense. This potential should be harnessed wisely,” he stated during a discussion attended by Palmoilmagazine.com in Jakarta on Monday, July 15, 2024.

“In the context of democracy, the establishment of the agency should take every aspiration from many parties, not only smallholders. We have to clarify the basic legality if it is laws, the government’s regulations, or the president’s regulations,” he said.

Prof. Rachmat Pambudy also said, palm oil agencies, as part of national scale strategies to produce competitive products, should compete in global scale trade. Even though he did not represent any party, besides being a professor and coordinator in Himpunan Kerukunan Tani Indonesia, he thought, palm oil agency was a strategic need for national scale industries.
