PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – During a coordination meeting regarding the Implementation of President’s Instruction Number 6/2019 on the National Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil from 2019 to 2024, Muh Aris Marfai, the Head of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), presented the latest report on thematic geospatial implementation concerning palm oil plantation canopy.
BIG, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, conducted measurements of palm oil plantations’ width in 2019 and updated the palm oil plantation map on a scale of 1:50,000 in 2023. The findings revealed that palm oil plantations covered approximately 17.3 million hectares (ha).
“But the numbers have not been integrated in kebijakan satu peta (KSP),” Muh Aris Marfai said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official page of BIG, Monday (1/4/2024).
Meanwhile, Coordinator Minister in Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, that lead the meeting, told that since being implemented in 2017, palm oil plantations that got smallholders replanting program (SRP) laid on about 50 thousand ha per year. The numbers were narrowere than the targets that should be 180 thousand ha per year. That is why the meeting was approved to accelerate SRP.
Besides, palm oil plantation issues in forest regions was discussed. There were many scenarios to be prepared as mandated in Undang-Undang Cipta Kerja.
Many representatives attended the meeting, such as, from Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial/National Land Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, and regional governments. (T2)
