PALMOILMAGAZINE, BANGKA – The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in the West Bangka district has recently unveiled the comprehensive results of the 2023 agricultural census. The report provides an in-depth overview of the district’s agricultural landscape, highlighting palm oil as the leading commodity among the top ten, which include rubber, field paddy, pepper, cassava, durian, regular hens, cayenne pepper, avocado, and coconut.
The Sub-district of Kelapa boasts the largest number of personal agricultural business units, totaling 7,604 units (24.37 percent), followed by Simpang Teritip with 6,831 units (21.89 percent), and Tempilang with 5,564 units (17.83 percent). The Sub-district of Mentok accounts for 3,518 units (11.27 percent).
I Ketut Mertayasa, the Head of CBS West Bangka, emphasized that the announcement aims to highlight the findings of the 2023 agricultural census conducted from June to August. The released data is expected to provide valuable insights for stakeholders and individuals interested in agriculture within the district.
As quoted from Bangkapos.com, Mertayasa also emphasized that agricultural census was a dynamic data and if there is different interpretation or objection from the stakeholders, it needs further discussion in the next meeting. He thought, every data would need understanding from many perspectives, sustainable discussion to perfect data interpretation.
Mertayasa also mentioned that palm oil is still ‘the primadona’ of agriculture in West Bangka. It surpassed other commodities, such as, pepper. The sustainability of palm oil business is known that many people do it because it is more promising particularly in the context of exports.

In a whole, Mertayasa told the district really depends on material supplies from other regions particularly Java and Sumatera. The characteristic as an archipelago and history as tin producer would be the main factor in economic and agricultural system in the district. (T2)
