The Government of Indonesia believed that sustainable palm oil is the obligation to implement. The sustainable standards should not refer to certain scheme/model but should be globally acknowledged.

In addition, the government now focuses to palm oil for it contributes to the exchange, develops it with comparative mainstay, and positively contributes to health and education sectors. This sector plays significant roles to realize sustainable development goals (SDGs)

It needs to encourage this sector to develop as same as the sustainable principles, contribute SDGs realization in 2015 – 2030 that would be used as guidelines for developed and developing countries to implement sustainable economy.

Since 2011 the government has encouraged palm oil industries to prioritize sustainable principles by getting sustainable certificates or ISPO. The goal is about to introduce environment cultivation in palm oil industries to maintain economic, social, and environmental advantages for the long term.

The government is considering to reinforce ISPO by escalating 2015 – 2030 SDGs value adoption in ISPO principles and criteria (P&C). ISPO P&C have 12 same goals of 17 SDGs 2015 – 2030, especially inclusive development and poverty alleviation. Lots of space to escalate 2015 – 2030 SDGs value adoption to ISPO indicators and principles in the future.

Unfortunately, as time went by, ISPO is thought to develop slowly and far from what is expected. Issues keep raising though ISPO should be the obligation for every stakeholder and planter.

The smallholders are minimally getting it, only 0,2% of the total palm oil plantations that they cultivated (six million hectares). The limit to get ISPO certificate would be only two years because it would be effective in 2025. (T2)
