537 Palm Oil Companies to Undergo Inventory Checks for Land Certification

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial (AAS) and the National Land Agency (NLA) are committed to expediting the palm oil plantation certification process in Indonesia.

Suyus Windayana, General Secretary of the Ministry of AAS/NLA, made this announcement during the Entry Meeting of Systemic Study with the Indonesian Ombudsman on Monday, July 22, 2024, in Jakarta.

Suyus noted that approximately 537 palm oil plantation companies will need to undergo inventory checks for their land ownership through local land offices. “We are prepared to coordinate with local agriculture agencies regarding plantation business permit ownership,” he stated.

He also highlighted that while the government has issued permits for around 16 million hectares of palm oil plantations, only 8 million hectares have been certified to date.

“We notice it because palm oil is the most – crude palm oil (CPO) production in Indonesia but many conflicts happened,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from the official statement, Wednesday (24/7/2024).

General Inspector of Ministry of AAS/NLA, R.B. Agus Widjayanto did said his commitment to supervise administration management about palm oil plantations, namely in business rights, and area conficts. “We did hear what the people complained about through Ombudsman and surveys conducted by Corruption Eradication Commission,” Agus mentioned.

Head of Main Assistantship, Ombudsman Indonesian Republic, Yustus Yoseph Maturbongs did welcome the initiative of Ministry of AAS/NLA to get synergy with Ombudsman and hoped that the related ministries and other stakeholders would take part to review palm oil plantation (ownerships) in this August.

The meeting was also attended by the officials in Ministry of AAS/NLA and Ombudsman. (P2)
